Chen Jinggu, also known as Lady Linshui, is regarded as the protector goddess of children and women during pregnancy and childbirth. Featured in the Northern Dipper Play, a distinct play in the Henghua repertoire, Chen Jinggu battles against the Sage Mother of the Celestial River to prevent her from causing harm to the Crown Prince of the Song Dynasty. Here she is seen holding a sword to slay demons and blows the horn to call for spiritual assistance. In the contemporary performance, Lady Linshui appears on stage and the child (now grown up) and his family go on stage to participate in the ritual. The child is eventually guided to safety.
